introducing the MA in Educational Leadership and Management
SSAT Middle East is in its fifth year of a partnership with the University of Warwick to support the delivery of its MA in Leadership and Management for teachers in the UAE & Gulf Region. The program now boasts its first graduating cohort of students who have successfully completed the program.
Specifically designed for teachers wanting to progress their career in education, the course is a dynamic module-based program which provides its students with individual support, Skype sessions and full interactivity through Moodle. The program is strengthened with face-to-face sessions in the UAE and occasional guest speakers and school leaders from the UK. The module, Foundation Research Methods, is delivered on-line.
The course is awarded by The University of Warwick, and UAE students are considered to be full members of the University. There course group elects a course representative to give feedback into the Warwick Staff Student Liaison Committee.
The MA is designed as a 2 to 3-year program, for teachers who are working. It comprises 5 ‘semester’ modules. 4 modules are accessed via extended essay responses and the fifth is the dissertation.
Students who complete the first 2 modules (in the first year) of the course and wish to withdraw from the MA are awarded a Post-Graduate Certificate in Innovation in Education (PGCIE).
Course Admission Requirements
The course admission requirements are found on the links below and include
- ‘native speaker’ English standard or IELTS 6.5 or higher,
- an academic degree at 2:2 or higher UK equivalent (or higher) is acceptable. Other qualifications may be considered.
- Students do not need to be in a school management role to undertake this course, but should have an interest in leadership and management in an educational context. 3 years minimum teaching experience is an advantage.
Warwick University Admissions are flexible and they take in to account the number of years experience you have in education, and the type of experience. Non-native speakers without a current IELTS score, can undertake an assessment of English Proficiency when University representatives are in the UAE to secure your place.

Testimony from a final-year MA student
“My experience of the MA thus far has been extremely positive. I enrolled onto the course as I see the MA as a valuable qualification that will support my career and professionalism within this region.
Warwick has an excellent reputation and the fact that it is a taught course from a UK university ensures quality and international recognition. I work full time and have recently had a baby, yet I still find the time to complete my studies. The course tutor is supportive and readily available to offer advice, guidance and feedback if and when required. The delivery of the course has been at a pace suitable to our group which includes English as second language users, teachers, consultants and trainers from a variety of subject areas.
The course is suitable for any specialism and the online library at Warwick has a variety of valuable resources to ensure academic rigor and credibility for any assignments set. We have been fortunate enough to have skype seminars with international guest speakers such as Dr Tony Bush.
Assignments are research based and as a student I have been able to focus on issues that I am interested in as the course allows a lot of freedom to follow the assignment criteria whilst pursuing a personal or professional aspect. My assignments have included a focus on careers information, advice and guidance, within school variation, leadership within new schools and my dissertation to begin shortly.
I can thoroughly recommend the MA in Educational Leadership and Management and trust that others will have a suitably positive experience.
