Expressions of interest are now closed for the 2015/16 course. People interested in taking the course 2016/17 should contact SSAT.
SSAT (Middle East) and the University of Warwick have combined to offer teachers in the UAE the opportunity to complete an International Post Graduate Certificate in Education (IPGCE). You can undertake the course while teaching in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Al Ain. The course is completed in 1 calendar year.
The course is taught and accredited by the University of Warwick, through a mixture of on-line and face-to-face media. SSAT facilitate the program and oversee the Professional Practice Module using mentors who will visit you in your school.
Who should take it?
The course is designed for teachers holding a academic degree from a recognized university and are teaching in the UAE, but want/need to add a recognized teacher-qualification (ie teaching licence) to their current qualifications.
Teachers will need to
- either native-speaker English or IELTS 6.5
- have an degree from a recognized university at honours 2:2 equivalent or higher
- be teaching in one of the following fields: English, Mathematics, Science, Arabic Language or Primary. Arabic speakers are encouraged to apply – subject to the English language requirements.
For UK teachers, because the course is being delivered overseas, it cannot be awarded with QTS (English Qualified Teacher Status), however, this upgrade is possible in some qualifying International British schools, and if a teacher returns to the UK, Warwick will facilitate an accelerated QTS-upgrade for you.
Students taking this course will gather a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that they have achieved the set professional competencies. Students will also gain 90 credits toward an MA in Educational Innovation and have the opportunity to upgrade to a full Masters at the University of Warwick.
Potential ‘students’ can visit http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/ipgce where there is information about the course and the Warwick enrolment portal.
